Rae Morris Unveils Homecoming Video For ‘Someone Out There’
Rae Morris has today unveiled an incredibly touching video for ‘Someone Out There’, the emotional core of her recently released album of the same name. Shot in Blackpool, it features three generations of her family, her other half and album co-creator Fryars (aka Ben Garrett), Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service (who her father was part of for over thirty years), as well as her representation of the people of her hometown Blackpool. It is also her fourth visual collaboration with director Noel Paul (Bat For Lashes, Royksopp) following ‘Reborn’, ‘Do It’ and ‘Atletico (The Only One)’.
This Friday (23rd March) Rae will be performing ‘Someone Out There’ on BBC1’s Sports Relief, and last Friday she greeted Greg James at the end of his Gregathon performing the same track.
Rae had to say on the video:
“It was amazing finally getting to make a video in Blackpool. Noel and Gabe came over from New York (where I’d been for ‘Do It’) and I loved showing them around my hometown and helping them document the place that I spent most of my life so far.
We wanted to photograph a big variety of people and it worked so well having family and friends come down to have their portraits taken. My mum and dad are in the Star Trek cos-play suits and that is their camper van.
My dad was a firefighter for 30 years and I’m pretty sure if I wasn’t doing music as a career I would have followed in his footsteps. We filmed at his station with firefighters that have known me since I was a child. They let us use their Aerial Ladder Platform for the final shots over the lake in Stanley Park and posed in the freezing cold for some time.
This video is full of special moments for me. Playing on the Blackpool Tower Ballroom Wurlitzer after dreaming of it since I was a kid and dancing around the room with my nana are things I’ll never forget.
Someone Out There is a reminder that no matter who you are or where you are, there is always someone who loves and cares for you.”
Earlier this year Rae released her critically acclaimed new album ‘Someone Out There’ via Atlantic Records. The record follows two sensational singles, ‘Do It’ and ‘Atletico (The Only One)’, the former of which received Popjustice’s Best Track of 2017 accolade, and both of which have achieved widespread support across Radio 1 and beyond.
She is currently on the road for her biggest UK tour in 18 months, including a headline show at London’s Heaven on 28th March. Tickets are on sale now – http://raemorris.co.uk/
