Danny Howard joins Annie Mac to co host new Radio 1 concept, the Rave Lounge

The exclusive Friday night takeover slot aims to provide a platform for electronic artists to showcase their DJ skills live in the studio. Reminiscent of the well-publicised daytime slot for pop artists to perform acoustic covers of classic songs, the Rave Lounge took place at 8pm on a Friday night on BBC Radio 1 with Annie Mac and Danny co hosting. Danny joined Annie in the studio for an hour prior, contributing to her long-running weekend kickstarter show.

From 8pm right through until 1am an array of DJ talent joined them for a chat and perform a set broadcast live on the radio. Gorgon City, Miss Kittin, Artwork, Mella Dee, Mark Knight, Franky Rizardo, Danny Byrd, S.P.Y, Riton, Kah-Lo & Mr Eazi all played, whilst fellow Radio 1 dance hosts Monki and B.Traits will also be joining, both to DJ and co host in a first for the station. Danny himself will be DJing back to back with Defected favourite Franky Rizardo, whilst Annie will also take her turn playing with Monki.

It’s the latest step in a series of exciting career moves for Danny; he recently moved his show from Saturday evening to late Friday night to better reflect the kind of underground music he plays at world-leading clubs like Hi, Privilege, Pacha and Amnesia Ibiza, Motion Bristol, The Warehouse Project, XOYO and Ministry Of Sound. He’s also making more time for production, with recent releases on Glasgow Underground, Food Music and Toolroom cementing his reputation as a multitalented producer as well as presenter, curator and DJ. Danny’s ever-increasing involvement with BBC Radio 1’s Friday nights is evidence of him further developing into one of the UK’s most prominent voices in dance music.
